Although the Fisherman’s body was never found, they all thought he was dead. But they were wrong… Or did someone else put on a slicker? 

It’s been two years after Julie and her friends hit Ben Willis and one year since Ben Willis dressed in a slicker as the Fisherman killed all her friends except for her and Ray. They are back together but Julie suffers from nightmares and thinks she sees the Fisherman in unlikely places. These nightmares will soon become a reality when the Fourth of July is nearing.

The Setting

Julie is still in college and Ray drives up to her to ask her to come back to Southport with him for the Fourth of July weekend. She wants to, but isn’t ready. He sees this as a rejection, but is still on planning to ask her if she wants to marry him. He even got an engagement ring. 

When Karla, Julie’s roommate, gets a phone call from a radio station, she gets a quiz question right. What is the capital of Brazil? And she answers Rio de Janeiro and wins four tickets to the Bahamas for the weekend of the Fourth of July. Of course she takes Julie and her boyfriend Ty. 

Julie asks Ray, but he has doubts. But his friend Dave tells him to go. They drive to Julie’s college together, but on the road they see the remnants of a car accident and a man lying in the middle of the road. Ray gets out, and to his horror the man is a dummy. It’s an ambush. He runs for his life before he is run over by the Fisherman and ends up in the hospital.

Meanwhile Julie is waiting for him. But when he doesn’t show up or even gives her a call, Karla asks Will, who is into Julie, to come with them. 

The Characters

So Julie goes with Karla Wilson, Tyrell and Will Benson to Tower Bay Island. There they find out it’s just of now off-season and storm season. They are the only guests and there are some staff present. Mr Brooks, the manager, Nancy, the bartender. Darick the dockhand, Estes the porter, Olga the housekeeper and Titus the pool guy. 

They try to make the best of it, but soon the killer strikes again.

Let the killings begin

• Death no1: Dave was killed first in the ambush so the Fisherman could get his car and run Ray over.
• Death no.2: Darick is killed in the water with a hook. Julie finds him hanging in her closet but when she raises the alarm, the body is gone and nobody believes her.
• Death no.3: Olga finds some blood on the door and in her laundry basket and she’s killed next. She is later found by Karla in the dryer, who now believes Julie.
• Death no.4: Titus is killed in the pool house. When Will and Ty find him they finally believe Julie.
• Death no.5: When they want to use the radio to call for help, they find a dead Mr Brooks and written “I Still Know” on the wall. 
• Death no. 6: They hide in the pantry and find Nancy, but Ty who still doesn’t believe Julie’s Fisherman story is killed with a hook.
• Death no.7: Estes tells them a story about a man who worked here years back, how  he killed his wife and left with his son and daughter. He disappears and Will goes after him. But then a dying Estes shows up again with a spear through his body.
• Death no.8: Estes falls right on top of Nancy and the Fisherman pushes Estes further onto Nancy, impaling her too. 

The Killer unmasked

When Will shows up all bloody and rescues the girls from the storm shelter where they just found all the bodies, Julie tries to tend to his wound. But she can’t find a wound, just blood. But the blood is not his. He reveals himself to be Will, Ben’s son, Will Benson. And his father is on the island too, doing all the killing. Will arranged the fake radio call. And Rio de Janeiro isn’t even the capital of Brazil, it’s Brasilia. 

The story Estes told them about the man on the island was the story of Ben Wilson and his son Will and daughter Susie. And that means he was already a killer way before he killed David Egan and all of Julie’s friends and many more. 

Both Will and Ben take Julie to the cemetery and as they are about to kill her, Ray shows up. He left the hospital, pawned the engagement ring and bought a gun. And flew and sailed all the way to the island through the storm. He and Will fight and Will gets the upper hand, holding Ray, while Ben is coming at him with his hook. But Ray head buds Will and ducks so Ben impales his own son Will with his hook. Julie picked up the gun and shoots Ben again and again until he falls into the grave he dug for her. 

When Ray and Julie reunite, Karla also shows up. She survived as well. And the rescue team has arrived to take them home.

A while later, Julie and Ray have bought a house together but Julie is still not quite at ease. As she sits on her bed, she is pulled by her ankles and dragged under the bed by the Fisherman. 

Final thoughts

So as Ben in the first movie told Julie that if you kill a man, make sure he’s really dead, they never got the chance to check if he was really dead the second time they “killed” him. He fell overboard with a severed hand but that didn’t kill him. 

Let that be a good lesson for the new group of friends who accidentally killed someone and find that they are being stalked by a figure with a hook setting out to kill them in the new upcoming installment of the franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025).
