Learn everything that happened in Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (2023).

With the fifth and allegedly final installment of the Hell House LLC franchise coming up, that will tie all previous four films together, it’s important to know exactly what happened in all those four films. I have watched all of them again, and I didn’t mind at all, because I love the franchise, especially because it’s found footage and with a mockumentary style, and I have made recaps for every film. 

So let’s pick up where we left off and revisit the second installment of the franchise. 

The Main Characters

• Margot Bentley: Co-founder of website Net Sleuths who gets permission to stays at the Carmichael Manor to film an item. 
• Rebecca Vickers: Margot’s girlfriend who joins her on her haunted house missions.
• Chase Bentley: Margot’s brother who was asked to help her out at the manor with filming.
• Bradley Mynahan: co-founder of Net Sleuths and being interviewed for this  documentary.
• Alicia Cavalini: writer, author of Buried Secrets and being interviewed for this documentary.

The Carmichaels

On October 10 1989 daughter Catherine and mother Eleanor were found slaughtered in their beds. Father Arthur en 20-year-old son Patrick went missing. Only one single set of footprints led away from the manor. Arthur was the main suspect but until this day he is still missing and Patrick’s body has never been found. Catherine was only 17 years old and had a passion for filming. 

But it started long before these murders. In April that same year while Patrick was driving Margaret, his older sister to town to rehearse for the play Faust, their car was smashed by a drunk driver. Margaret was killed at the scene and Patrick lost the use of his left arm. Because of that arm he wasn’t a suspect.

It is now rumored that the house is haunted. Nobody was ever allowed, by Beatrice Eleanor’s sister who now owns the house, to stay there a long time. Until now.

The Carmichael Manor

Margot Bentley got permission to film and stay for five days. Rebecca, her girlfriend is coming with her. And Margot asked he brother Chase to come as well. Margot and Rebecca are welcomed by Donald who gives them a tour of the house. He also tells them about an antique store in town that holds several items that belonged to the Abaddon Hotel, that were saved from the wreckage after the fire. The manor also has a storage room but it’s locked and there’s no key. Suddenly the storage room door opens and inside they find all sorts of stuff and two creepy clown mannequins and a chest full of stuff. 

That night Chase and Rebecca hear singing but find no one. When Rebecca films herself, a bloodied Catherine is seen lying on the bed.

Margot at the Rockland County Fair

When Margot was ten years old, she and her family went to the Rockland County Fair. She got separated and a man tried to lure her away. She escaped, but several other kids went missing that day. She now feels responsible for not being able to do more, and is now on a mission to uncover the truth and solve mysteries. 

The Antique Store

While Margot and Rebecca go to the antique store, Chase stays behind. Margot and Rebecca find stuff that belonged to the Abaddon Hotel, or were found nearby. Like a planchette (Brock’s), an Insomnia mask, a bottle of wine and the Grandfather’s Clock. Rebecca says that those clocks have secret compartments. And when she opens one, she finds a necklace inside, a film can, and some notes and letters. One letter says:  All staff must be present Thursday September 15. The hotel will be closed. Beverly must be found and safely brought back to the hotel, I fear she might be pregnant. Please handle with caution. They secretly take those items with them.

Back at the manor Chase hears giggling and sees a hand on the doorpost. Then a figure with a mask on peeps around the door and when he goes to check it out, there’s no one there. 

Night Two

Margot reads some of the notes. One says: when they return the most common side effect is bleeding from the face. Doc says from hemolacrie. She also reads a note with strange poetry. 

That night a red ball from the chest from the storage room rolls into in the hallway. Things get even more upsetting when Rebecca is on a video call with her boss Linda. She shows her a presentation of houses on listings. But there’s also a picture of the Abaddon Hotel and pictures of the Carmichael Manor. Pictures, Rebecca didn’t take. The last picture shows  her from behind, sitting at the desk like she is now. In the next picture a girl is standing behind her and the last picture shows the ghostly girl near Rebecca’s face. Then the connection is cut off. Three cloaked figures are seen on the screen saver. 

Rebecca wants to leave and so does Chase. Margot says they’ll leave in the morning. 

Night Three

Amongst the notes, they also find a picture of the Clarksburg Fair in West Virginia from 1975. There’s a carnival game on it with the two clown suits, just like the ones upstairs in the storage room. But Rebecca says that there are three clowns now instead of two. 

While they are sitting in the kitchen, the call button buzzes. It’s coming from Patrick’s room. Chase and Rebecca go upstairs and find one of the clowns standing in Patrick’s room. Downstairs a closet door opens and a red ball is rolling towards Rebecca. When she goes looking inside the closet the other clown is standing there. 

Back in Chase’s room he tells Margot why their mother called her all concerned about him. The day before Margot called him to come to the Carmichael Manor, he saw a little girl who had lost her mother. He wanted to help her find her and she told him they were staying at a hotel. But the girl disappeared. Later that day she kept showing up wherever he went. Although she wasn’t real, she told him to go with Margot. 

In the middle of the night Margot hears a thud and a shout, but sees nothing. The next morning Chase’s bag is in the hallway but he disappeared. 

Chase’s last recording

He is drinking and talking to the camera when someone knocks on his door. But there’s nobody there. This repeats several times. Until in the middle of the night when his lights are out he hears his door opening, although he had locked it. Someone is coming inside. When he turns on the lights he’s terrified. The third clown, the clown with the bleeding eyes is standing in his room and turns towards him. Patrick wants to leave but the clown follows him and attacks him. It’s the first time ever we see the clown move and even walk and attack someone. 

Andrew Tully

Alicia tells us there’s not much known about Andrew Tully. He lived in the 60s with his wife and daughter Abigail in Arkansas. Abigail died very young, and it’s the girl in the painting that hangs in the Abaddon Hotel. Shortly after her death Tully flees an arrest warrant. He flees to Clarksburg West Virginia and there he meets Thomas Rollins and Freddy Perkins who own a carnival gaming stand called Down-A-Clown, during the late 60s and early 70s. A picture shows both men in the same clown costumes which are now in the Manor’s storage room. It is very plausible that the cult started there. 

Escaping Carmichael Manor

Rebecca wants to leave now, but Margot doesn’t want to leave without Chase. They’ll give him till two o’clock then they will really leave. 

Now it’s four o’clock and they didn’t find Chase. So they get into the car, but it won’t start. They decide to walk through the woods and backroads to the main road and they can make it before dark falls. But once in the woods, that belongs to the Carmichaels and is acres and acres big, they hear a scream and under some sort of construction they see a cloaked figure standing. More appear and Margot and Rebecca start running back to the Manor.

Once inside they hide in their bedroom. Tomorrow is the day that Donald comes, but then Margot gets a text from Chase who says he has made new friends and that they want to meet her. Someone is walking outside their bedroom. When Margot opens the door there’s nobody there. But Chase texts her that they are inside with them now. 

Rebecca and Margot run and hide inside their car.

Night Four

The car alarm goes off. Cloaked figures are standing outside their car and they run back inside the Manor again. Now Rebecca calls 911 for help. While Margot finds a dead Chase sitting in a chair and bleeding from his eyes. The last thing we see of them is that Rebecca gets attacked by the ghost of Catherine and Margot gets attacked by the clown with the bleeding eyes. 

The next day their bodies were found. But Chase is still missing.

The Carmichael Tapes

Margot sent Bradley the film can just before she disappeared and he developed it.

First we see that Margaret scared Catherine who was filming, by peeping around the door wearing a mask. It’s the same place as where Chase saw her ghost. It was also the same day that Margaret got killed. 

On September 4 1989 Catherine gets into Patrick’s room who is in a bad shape. He’s got three clowns standing in his room and on the dresser lies Margaret’s bloodied dress and her mask. He says that they could bring her back. Catherine gives him a necklace because it helped her once. It’s the same necklace Rebecca found in the Grandfather’s Clock. There’s also a chest in Patrick’s room, the chest that’s now in the storage room. It’s stuff that the cult from the Abaddon Hotel stored at the Carmichael Manor. When Patrick leaves she goes through it and we see in the mirror that the three clowns are bending over her shoulder. She finds a red ball in the chest and also sheet music. 

She takes the sheet music and starts playing. It’s the same eerie piano music that the piano in the Abaddon Hotel played. There are also lyrics and she starts to play and sing: 

Something’s coming, cold the nightfall, all things dying, never come back. Throw the ashes, clasp your crosses, pray to him, you’ll never come back. Life’s a cycle, full with darkness, stay with him, and never come back.

On October 10 that evening Patrick comes home. Catherine is all worried and heard the news about the mass suicide at the Abaddon Hotel. He tells her that he got arrested, but was supposed to be there when they crossed over. Then Catherine hears giggling and sees Margaret standing with a bloodied dress on and wearing her mask. Catherine hides in her bedroom, but says that they are inside the house now. We can see cloaked figures before the camera scrambles. 

But there’s still more footage. We see Patrick at the Abaddon Hotel with the clown costume on of the clown with the bleeding eyes. He talks to the camera and says that if anyone finds this recording, he had no choice. He says we all serve him in different ways. In the background it sounds like a baby crying. Patricks stands up and off screen he says it will all be over soon. Then he puts on the clown mask and stands at the top of the stairs looking down. Then he turns his head towards the camera before he descends the stairs. It’s the exact same image as Paul saw in Hell House LLC (2015).

Conclusion

Evil never dies.

Key points to remember 

• It was Patrick’s transcript Jessica got sent in Hell House LLC Lake of Fire (2019) that made her go to the Abaddon Hotel.
• In Hell House LLC: The Abandon Hotel (2017) the crew talks about the Rockland County Fair in 2003 where al lot of kids disappeared. It’s probably that same fair that was behind the Abaddon Hotel. Even probably the same fair Margot was almost taken.
• The girl Chase saw and who was looking for her mother, was the girl who disappeared from the hotel, after that Tully killed himself. 
• The cloaked figures were probably the ones who killed Catherine and Eleanor. While there were no blood traces in the snow, just footprints, leading away from the manor. 
• And we now know Patrick got away unharmed. 
• Tully had a connection with a gaming stand with clowns. 
• He stored these clown suits and another one (the famous one) and other things at the Carmichael Manor. 
• Margot’s and Rebecca’s bodies were found, but not Chase’s body. 

Unanswered Questions

• When did Margot have the chance to send Bradley the film can? Or did someone or something else do that, just like Tully send all the other previous journalist packages and tapes?
• Who is Beverly? Could she be the ghost girl who keeps on appearing at the Abaddon Hotel? 
• Is there a baby crying in the background before Patrick descends the stairs? And if so whose is it and why is it there?
• Did the clown suit with the bleeding eyes belong to Andrew Tully?
• Why did Tully and his cult store some stuff at the Carmichael Manor?
• Where is Arthur Carmichael?
• Why did the cloaked figures appear at the Carmichael Manor and how did they get in and out?
• What happened after Patrick descends into the basement? Did he come back as the Clown with bleeding eyes? 
• What is the meaning of the song? Is it an incantation of some sorts?
