The List of 20 Supernatural Comedy TV Series Worth Watching (Horror & Fantasy)

Ash vs Evil Dead in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

Let’s have some fun with these comedy horror series with a variety of humor and horror genres.

Comedy is a very versatile and broad genre. There are lots of different kinds of humor, from slapstick to deadpan, from satire to absurd, silly, self-aware, dark humor and witty humor. Everybody has their own preference(s).

While it seems like comedy is a genre of its own, its actually a style, a tone, but the overall genre can be anything. For the horror genre this means it can be monsters, gothic, folk horror, superheroes, science fiction, fantasy, supernatural.

It can be used just for laughs, for entertainment, to relax, but it can also used as a social commentary, making you think or it can soften up the horror to counterbalance the scares. Some will make you smile, some will make you giggle and some will even make you laugh out loud.

Here are some very different kinds of comedy horror series, from subtle to hilarious so there will something for everyone.

I have put together a list of Comedy Horror TV Series that I have watched and personally recommend. It’s not a list with all the comedy horror tv series out there or the best ones, but this is a selection of tv series that I enjoyed watching.

The list is set up by decade and by year. Starting with the most recent tv series. Each time I have found a new tv series within this genre that I highly recommend it will be added to the list.

So save this post for more recommendations.

The list consists of 20 tv series at the moment.

Widows Bay in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

Patrica his assistant also has to deal with some strange and scary happenings when she is unknowingly the center of a folk horror and the final girl on the run from the boogyman. While they get help from Wyck, the three of them have to figure out what causes the curse and how to stop to before it consumes them all.

Short Review

This sounds very creepy, with each episode a different kind of horror genre, but the terrifying scenes are mostly surrounded by a lot of dry deadpan humor. The way the episodes unfold and how the whole big story arc is brought, is with a lot of humor. It’s not only what and how things are playing out, but the town is also full of quirky people. It’s a unique blend of genres with the main characters at the core of the story and a big mystery that still hides some terrible secrets that will hopefully unfold in the second season which is already confirmed. At Godolkin she befriends Emma, Jordan, Andre and Cate. After the suicide of one of the most popular students, they find out that Godolkin hides a terrible secret. In the second season Marie, Andre, Emma and Jordan are captured, while Cate and Sam have crossed over to Homelander’s side. But that’s not their only problem, the new head of the school is turning the University into some kind of Hunger Games, testing their powers for a very nefarious plan.

Short Review

While this spin-off is set in the universe of The Boys, it has the same tone, but a bit milder and less extreme, although it also has animal cruelty. It’s more a coming-of-age story about young Supes. It also has a lot of graphic bloody violence, but less than The Boys, while the humor is also less dark and harsh. It also discuss social themes, but more related to younger people, like the importance of being popular and getting likes and whether to obey authorities even if they are wrong. Marie and her friends must find their way in the Supe world, learning how to deal with their powers, their problems, each other and the world. The final episode they blend into the world of The Boys, which brings an end to Gen V, which feels a bit abrupt.

Chucky in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

Chucky (2021-2024) 3 seasons, cancelled

It’s time for Chucky to start his killer sequence again. Together with his friends Devon and Lexy he has to stop Chucky. The second season at an orphanage brings even more Chucky’s, who are cloned and bring more chaos and fun each one with a somewhat different personality. The third season Chucky has big plans to take over the White House.

Short Review

This unleashes all sorts of brutal, bloody gory kills that are over the top with tongue-in-cheek, over the top humor. It’s centered around Jake, Devon and Lexy, their coming-of-age story, their friendship and young queer blossoming love.  We see familiar faces of the franchise like Tiffany, Nica, Andy and Kyle. The new storylines are original, creative and a lot of fun. And of course a lot of over the top kills with lots of blood and gruesome deaths. Sadly the third season ends with a huge cliffhanger before the series was cancelled. It’s such a shame because it was a fresh and nostalgic take on the franchise with great characters and supernatural storylines.

Truth Seekers in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

Truth Seekers (2020) 1 season, cancelled

Stars: Nick Frost, Samson Kayo, Emma D’Arcy, Susan Wokoma, Malcolm McDowell. Created by Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz. (8 episodes, 24-32 min)

Plot

Gus is a broadband installer and repairman. But at night he is a paranormal investigator. When he gets a new coworker called Elton John, strange things are starting to happen. They encounter Astrid who’s on the run from ghosts. The three of them are the Truth Seekers looking for hauntings in the UK. They discover a sinister apocalyptic plan to trigger Armageddon. There’s also Elton’s sister Helen who’s an agoraphobic, and Gus’ grumpy dad Richard, who still lives with him. This motley crew of people are up against a shady conspiracy theorist who wants to bring about the end of the world.

Short Review

The characters all deal with traumas, issues and struggles, but find each other in a common goal. They are likable and are real people and fleshed out and form a strong basis for the sometimes absurdly funny events. The humor is dry, witty and deadpan, but never forgets the tragic side. Each episode has a different haunting but eventually everything fits together. The ghosts are scary and the mystery keeps on unfolding. Although each episode lift a tip of the veil it also adds more questions. It has an original take on ghost haunting with a fun but often very scary atmosphere. The heart of the series are the three Truth Seekers, while the supporting characters are rather important too. It’s a shame this series got cancelled. It had a great set up for much more fun and creepiness to come. You can Read my Full Review.

The Boys in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

The Boys (2019-2016) 5 seasons, finished

Stars: Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Antony Star, Erin Moriarty. Created by Eric Kripke. (40 episodes, 55-70m)

Genres: satire, superheroes, social commentary

Plot

In an alternate world where some babies who were injected with Compound-V, grew up with superpowers, each a surprising different one. Now The Seven is a group of the most powerful Supes appointed by the Vought Company. They seem real heroes helping people, but when one of them runs over Hughie’s fiancé with his super speed he wants revenge and joins a vigilante group The Boys to expose and stop the corruption of the Supes. Meanwhile Annie is a Supe who desperately wants to join The Seven as Starlight. When she makes the cut she realizes it’s all fake and lust for power instead of doing good.

Short Review

It’s a satirical superhero series with over the top brutal violence. While the violence and the sometimes absurd and gross superpowers, jump off the screen, it’s mainly about a corrupt company, corrupt people out for power and a government that seems powerless. It’s a dark satire full of social commentary about corporate greed, celebrity culture, media manipulation, abuse of power, political fanaticism and extremism. What first seems to be a personal vendetta of Butcher, the leader of The Boys against Homelander, and for Hughie against A-Train, they realize democracy and humanity is at stake. The characters are very well rounded and fleshed-out making even Homelander a victim sometimes. It’s brutal, very gross at times and even crosses many lines, and with lots of animal cruelty, this is not a series for the faint of heart. The series is a complete story from start till finish, with an actual wrap up with some emotional deaths.

Creepshow in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

It covers all sorts of horror genres and there’s a story for everyone. The stories contain scares, ghosts, monsters and much more all wit a tongue-in-cheek vibe. Rita Farr, a former actress is very stretchy and Jane has a Dissociative Identity Disorder with multiple personalities. And Victor Stone who is half cyborg. Each have traumas to process, while they encounter nemesis only they can defeat on their own weird way. First they have deal with Mr. Nobody. In the second season they meet Dorothy, Caulder’s daughter and the Candlemaker. The third season Madame Rouge arrives in a time machine and they have to fight The Brotherhood of Evil. And in the final season they have to deal with the Buttpocalypse and they have to find closure.

Short Review

Although all the events, the evils they have to fight are all very bizarre and fun, the superheroes struggle with severe traumas. The way the series handles these traumas is with much integrity but also humor which is perfectly balanced. All the characters are very well fleshed-out and their trauma are real and very tragic. That causes a lot of emotional scenes that are very heavy and serious. They are a dysfunctional family who wants to find their own way, but they keep finding each other and helping each other. It’s a wonderful series that offers a lot in this rollercoaster and has a very beautiful emotional ending that is very satisfying.

The Umbrella Academy in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

The Umbrella Academy (2019-2024) 4 season, finished

Stars: Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Robert Sheehan, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min. Created by Jeremy Slater. (20 episodes, 40-69 min)

The family falls apart but when Reginald dies, the five of them come together as does Five who has found his way back. Together they must solve the mystery of their father’s death, while two hitman are after Five, and the superheroes find out shocking truths about their past. In season 2 they are transported to 1963. The third season brings them to an alternate timeline. While the Apocalypse follows them, until they have to stop this in the fourth season.

Short Review

The series looks stunning, with its alternative universe, great cinematography and music. Although it’s not a laughing out loud series, the humor is sometimes dark or subtle. It’s more about the fantastical storylines that are bizarre, weird and fun. The superheroes form a dysfunctional family and while weird events unfold around them, it also focuses on their past and present growth in relation to each other which makes it very interesting and emotional. They each struggle with personal traumas and although they fight like siblings they only have each other. The assassins are great characters and it feels like a mix of a cartoonish vibe and a realistic one. Each season brings another vibe with different problems and struggles, while their main story arc about the characters goes on. You can Read my Full Review of Season 1, Season 2.

What We Do in the Shadows in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

What We Do in the Shadows (2019-2024) 6 seasons, finished

Stars: Kayvan Novak, matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, Mark Proksch. Created by Jermaine Clement. (61 episodes, 22-30 min)

Genres: mockumentary, comedy, vampires

Plot

A film crew follows four vampires, Laslzo and Nadja who are a couple and Nandor and Colin Robinson an energy vampire living their lives on Staten Island with their human familiar Guillermo. While they assimilate as humans into human affairs like watching the Supurb Owl with their neighbors, we also follow them on their vampiric adventures. This results in a lot of hilariously comical events and situations. The three vampires are very quirky each in their own way. Nandor cannot function without Guillermo. Laszlo is a sex addict and Nadja is maybe the most normal, while Colin bores everyone to death. They live together, are best friends and have to put up with each other.

Short Review

The series has its own authentic tone. Although the vampires are very old, they are not wise but stubborn and don’t give a damn about it. That makes it so funny. They do as they please mostly with terrible outcomes, but they don’t mind and don’t care. Colin is such a dry figure, so boring but so funny and hilarious without meaning to be. Each episode they have a new adventure, a problem to be solved or a problem they get themselves into. There is a continuing story arc, which keeps it interesting. Because of the found footage set up it’s a very unique approach to the vampire genre and the comedy genre as well. All kinds of supernatural beings like witches and werewolves show up. It’s great fun with campy humor that is sometimes over the top, and the most crazy situations. You can Read my Full Review of Season 1, Season 2.

Maniac in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

Maniac (2018) Mini Series

Stars: Emma Stone (Annie Landsberg), Jonah Hill, Justin Theroux, Sonoya Mizuno. Created by Patrick Somerville. (10 episodes, 26-47 min)

Genres: science fiction, comedy, philosophical, symbolism, psychological

Plot

Owen Milgrim is born into a wealthy family but doesn’t fit in and suffers from schizophrenia and hallucinations. He is chosen by a Pharmaceutical company to participate in a drug trial that will cure his mental illness. Annie Landsberg also joins the experiment and suffers from childhood trauma. During the experiment something goes wrong and both their consciousness become connected and sends them on several adventurous journeys in which they find and help each other. Meanwhile the head scientist and his sentient computer also have some issues.

Short Review

This is a rollercoaster of a story that takes you each episode on a whole different adventure and journey where Owen and Annie take on very different roles. It takes them to different places, with different people and settings. They go to the eighties, the twenties, rescue a lemur, are in a Lord of The Rings universe and more. It’s a wondrous mind realm that amazes. But their home world is also pretty original, like a futuristic retro world. The characters are quirky but real, the cinematography is wonderful, and while it all looks amazing, it comes down to the growth of the characters of Owen and Annie. With absurdism, their issues are addressed which are complicated. The story plays out on an emotional, psychological and philosophical level always with humor. It’s weird and fun but it also can be creepy and wondrous. The meta-perspective full of symbolism and motifs throughout the episodes are connected,  which makes this an exceptional series. My Dead Ex in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

My Dead Ex (2018) 1 season, cancelled

Stars: Katherine Hughes, Ryan Lee. Created by Drew Hancock, Jason Director, Ayla Harrison. (8 episodes, 21-27 min)

Genres: comedy, zombies, romantic horror, coming-of-age

Plot

Charley Albright is in high school, has a crush on Luke and she has a best friend Wren. And she has a secret admirer Ben Bloom. They were best friends when they were ten years old. When he wants to win her heart by a playful stunt, he accidentally falls to his death. At his wake Charley puts on the necklace he once gave her and by that act, he is brought back to life. As a zombie. Now he is bound to her, in a very literal way.

Short Review

It’s a very fun and original romantic quirky love story. Ben was already quirky when he was alive and now he’s dead things get even more weird with him. Especially when they figure out that Ben can’t be more than in 30 feet distance from Charley otherwise he drops dead. It’s a fun idea that causes multiple humorous moments. And it forces them to reconnect again. Through flashbacks we learn more about Charley and Ben’s relationship when they were kids. The dialogue is witty and fun and the adults are used for slapstick and satire. It’s fun, dreamy at times, romantic, emotional and very endearing. It was broadcast on a small network that shut down and nobody took over the series. It’s too bad because this was a very nice little series. You can Read my Full Review.

Happy in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

Happy! (2017-2019) 2 seasons, cancelled

Together they search for Hailey and stumble upon a sinister plot in which the kids tv show by Sonny Shine is involved. They have to find the Very Bad Santa who kidnapped Hailey, while they also get to deal with a mafia family and a very ruthless killer. It all plays out during Christmas giving it an extra fun vibe. In the second season it’s Easter and things get even more crazy and bizarre.

Short Review

It’s a very original, bizarre, crazy series with quirky, absurd characters, even more absurd events, all mixed with all sorts of styles, genres and very dark hilarious humor. It’s over the top in everything, gruesome, gross and full with graphic violence, sexual content and a lot of chaos. It’s a unique story with an authentic tone and vibe and mixes horror wth fantasy, dark humor, the occult, absurdism but also drama with room for emotional scenes. It’s a rollercoaster that is never boring and always surprises you. The storyline is well-crafted and original and creative but has a serious undertone that addresses trauma and how it shapes people. It’s very sad that this brilliant series was cancelled because it could have told so much more crazy stories, and I would have loved to see what they would have done for Halloween. Luckily Eric, the boy next door knows everything about zombies. The second season explores the lore and mythology behind Sheila’s zombiefication and they have found a cure, but it’s not that easy to come by. The third season brings more worries about the future as The Knights of Serbia hunt and kill the undead and a zombie cult wants to protect her.

Short Review

This brings them in all sorts of hilarious and bloody situations. It’s a hilarious comedy with great timing, awkward situations and very comical zombie ideas. The characters are very likable and fresh. As the series progresses it gets even more funny and the creative idea behind it gets weirder and more elaborate to a fantastical extent. While there’s still a lot of room, a kill room, for bloody kills, the focus is more on the characters, their relationships and the development of the storyline and mythology and the zombie universe. Meanwhile their normal lives also continue with their teenage daughter who has her own struggles and life. It’s a unique and original series that sadly was cancelled even after a huge cliffhanger. You can Read my Full Review of Season 1, Season 2, Season 3.

The journey brings them time traveling, a cult, body jumping, a kitten-shark and lots of science fiction weirdness. In the second season the three friends start up their official detective agency and we learn more about Project Blackwing. Their next case is in another realm called Wendimoor with all kinds of weird creatures and a medieval vibe, that takes us more to the fantasy genre.

Short Review

This description doesn’t even come close to what this series is all about. It’s a crazy, absurd, weird, bizarre rollercoaster of strange events, strange characters and all kinds of weirdness. From time travel, to a girl in the body of a dog and vice versa. It’s fast, imaginative, original, chaotic and often feels a bit surreal. Along the way this great adventure grows into a big universe full of weirdness and hilarious fun, while it also offers a big clever mystery and a well crafted story. It’s too bad that this series was cancelled because it only got better while the universe got expanded and the characters more explored. Still these two season are a must-see if you like unpredictable weird stories. You can Read my Full Review of Season 1, and Season 2.

People of Earth in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

People of Earth (2016-2017) 2 seasons, cancelled

He decides to stay and figure out more about this group, the aliens and his own childhood. Meanwhile aliens Jeff a Grey, Don a White and Kurt a Reptilian don’t want their plans involving earth being disrupted by this group. In the second season we find out more about the involvement of these aliens in the lives of the group.

Short Review

This is a very charmingly funny story about a group of misfits who are considered crazy by people, but in fact are completely right. They were abducted and now they find comfort with each other. They are all a bunch of likable people who although they seem funny, carry traumas underneath their obsession for aliens. Although the humor is absurd and hilarious at times, they don’t become stereotypes and neither do the aliens who also get fleshed-out just as the people, making them evenly important. Unfortunately this series was cancelled, so we never know what happened after the cliffhanger of the second season. Still it’s a very original and creative series that is hilarious with consideration of the characters and a must watch if you like quirky characters and a quirky story.

Preacher in List of Comedy Horror TV Series

It takes them on a road trip to New Orleans. Meanwhile The Saint of Killers is after Jesse. The third season brings them to Jesse’s family. The fourth season is the final season where hey have to stop a narcissistic God.

Short Review

The tone of the series is comical but violent. The fight scenes are great and the whole atmosphere is over the top. The main characters are fleshed out and we see them struggle with their personal problems. Each character is complex and interesting, and the chemistry between the three of them is amazing. While it’s based on a graphic novel, it often feels like a comic in the best way. The characters are sometimes too bizarre, a mega killer cowboy, angels, a nazi in hell, an organization called The Grail, Humperdoo the new Messiah and much more. Aside from the graphic violence, the absurd humor, and exploration of the characters, it also has as serious tone. Although the main focus is on the absurd hilarious and bizarre storylines that create a unique and original series.

In the third season Evie has to travel back in time to save Stan and when they come back they have to face an apocalypse.

Short Review

The characters are all quirky and weird, likable and some even lovable. While Stan can be a bigot sometimes, Evie sets him straight and their chemistry works really well. Denise is absolutely fabulous and quirky. The situation they find themselves in are dire but hilarious and very absurd in such an amazing way. The demons and monsters bring danger and fun and look great and are original. With a monster-of-the-week structure and a big story arc the characters grow and get explored. The lore and mythology of the town and its curse gets expanded every season which keeps it interesting. It’s fast paced, feels like a rollercoaster, it’s snappy, witty, campy, has slapstick humor and is over the top funny. It even has some horror spoofs and satire. Sadly it was cancelled, before it got a satisfying ending. You can Read my Full Review of Season1, Season2, Season 3.

The second season Ruby needs their help and crosses over to their side keeping the dynamic fresh, with a new enemy demon Baal. The third season Ash finds out he has a 17-year-old daughter and things get more dire.

Short Review

Each episode is quick short, full of Deadite action and of course full of gore, blood, violence and a lot of humor and over the top hilarious fun. The episodes each bring an original style and gimmicks that keep it fresh and fun. It never gets boring. It has a very nostalgic feel and continues the tone set by Army of Darkness (1992). It brings us back to the cabin in the woods where it all started, but it also introduces new storylines, with new demons, enemies and new friends. The dynamics between the characters is great, it’s inclusive and there’s room for development. The practical and special effects are great and the demons look original and amazing, as do the sets. The ending of the series leaves us with a cliffhanger and a lot of questions, but don’t let that stop you from watching this brilliant series. You can Read my Full Review of Season1, Season 2, Season 3.,

The Chanels become assistants and Zayday has an internship. They are confronted with all kinds of bizarre diseases and of course a new killer, The Green Meanie who is also out for revenge.

Short Review

This is an over the top absurd and campy hilarious comedy that also has a lot of social commentary. Chanel is so self absorbed it’s embarrassing and the Chanels are just plain stupid. Grace and Zayday are the only normal characters who ground the series, keeping it not too absurd. But the Chanels steal the show. It’s a genuine slasher with a lot of kills that are original and also over the top with a revenge story arc that all will be revealed by Grace and Zayday. The series looks gorgeous, the set design, the costumes, the cinematography. The second season is even more hilarious and over the top. The doctors and nurses are all crazy bizarre characters and the patients have the most weird diseases, most of them actually exist. This is a unique slasher that is absurdly funny. Each season new and original ideas pop up, keeping it fresh and never boring. It’s a huge roadtrip across America searching for hope.

Short Review

While it’s a grim dangerous world with mostly dangerous survivors, it’s also very funny. Mainly because of the original zombies and other original ideas that have to do with zombies. The group is a very kick-ass group each with their own speciality. While the story evolves around finding a cure, they have a lot of trouble getting there. With absurd, hilarious situations, but also some emotional goodbyes or grim deaths. Still the creative storylines, adventures, people they encounter, like a zombie museum, a zombie circus, zombie weed and so much more, are cause for some great fun. The ending is satisfying as they finally have reached their goal, only in a surprising way. You can Read my Full Review of Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4, Season 5.
