Now that there’s a sixth installment of Final Destination on its way called Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025), it’s time to revisit all the deaths in the previous five movies. It’s time for the fifth installment that has a big surprise in store for us.
After 4 films we have seen 33 original, creative, elaborate, bloody and shocking deaths on screen. We’ve also had 6 premonitions that prevented Death from executing his Design. Although initially saved from horrible accidents like an exploding airplane, a huge pile-up, a rollercoaster crash and a crash at the race track followed by a collapsing stadium, they have to find a way to cheat Death.
In the first movie Bludworth the undertaker told them that they might be able to cheat Death and Death will skip them if they survive the initial attack. Unfortunately Death isn’t stupid and just starts his cycle of death again.
In the second film that same undertaker tells them that new life can save them. When Kimberly tries to drown herself to save Burke, he saves her by resuscitating her. They both indeed cheat Death, resulting in two actual survivors.
The third movie provides the main character with hints. In each picture she took from those would should have died, a clue can be found as to how they will die now. But these clues didn’t help them, probably even facilitated their deaths. But this film had a second premonition at the end, which killed them all eventually.
The fourth film not only gave us some elaborate creative death scenes, but also a second big premonition. In fact the main character gets continuous visions about the next person who will die and manages to save himself and two others, but not for long.
What will this fifth installment bring us? Does it have more deaths, more creative or elaborate death scenes, or does it have another twist or does it add something new to the mythology of the franchise? Let’s see what big event will set all of this in motion.
Plot
The fifth and last installment, so far, has a fun little twist at the ending. But first things first. The premonition death scene is the most elaborate and longest of them all and shows a lot of graphic deaths. Sam goes with a bunch of other colleagues on a company retreat. But while their bus is waiting for a stop sign on a large bridge, Sam has a vision of the bridge collapsing killing them all in gruesome ways. He only manages to get Molly to safety and she’s the only one surviving the accident. Something that has never happened before in the previous movies. So when he wakes up, he warns his colleagues, gets his ex-girlfriend Molly off the bus and six others as well. As the asphalt cracks, the bridge is starting to collapse and they make it just in time. Watching all the others fall to their deaths. Now Death has some catching up to do.

Death number 1: Candice
Candice is a gymnast and when her boyfriend and colleague Peter watches, some things are set in motion. The ceiling air-conditioning is loose and leaks water, and a loose screw falls on the balance beam. The portable fan has a broken cable. So those are little deathtraps biding their time. But none of these kill her, not directly at least. When she is on the two level high bars, another gymnast steps on the screw on the balance beam, falls, tops over the bowl of talcum, which is blown by the fan into Candice’s face, who’s about to make her final jump. She loses her balance, slips and falls like a broken pretzel on the mat. Bones sticking out all through her body. A very fun chain of events, that leads to a very gruesome and nasty death in the most original setting so far.
Death number 2: Isaac
Isaac is not a very likable character, who steals a coupon from a colleague’s desk who died at the bridge disaster. When he goes to the acupuncturist salon, a very original chain of events is set in motion. While he has needles sticking out of his whole face and upper body, incense falls on a towel and catches fire. Isaac is startled and falls from his massage table right onto his needles. While a jar of alcohol has fallen onto the floor, his vibrating phone knocks over a burning candle, setting the alcohol on fire. He nearly escapes, but a buddha statue falls off a shelf crushing his head. This is a very funny and very creative sequence, all the more because Isaac is a thief, a pervert and not a nice guy.
Death number 3: Olivia
Olivia is having eye laser surgery. Due to an electric malfunction the laser is activated while the doctor is gone away for a minute to get a file. Olivia is all alone with her head pinned between two head rests, so she can’t move her head while the laser burns her eye. She manages to escape, but slips over the broken-off eye of the teddybear she was holding for comfort. She then falls through the window to her death. A very excruciating scene to watch, at the end a simple death but again in an original setting and a fun chain of events.
Meanwhile the undertaker Bludworth from the first two movies tells Sam, Molly, Peter and Nathan that you, if you kill someone, you’ll take those person’s remaining years, sending someone else in your place into Death’s arms. Another revelation that isn’t quite uplifting, but they now do have a chance to cheat Death. But who would you kill?
Death number 4: Roy
When Nathan is at the factory he sees a huge hook going out of control. He has an argument with Roy, a worker, and tries to push him away from danger, but in doing so the hook falls right on top of Roy instead of killing Nathan. Instead of someone intervening, saving a life, like in all the other four movies, now you have to take a life to survive. A far more sinister approach to the franchise.
Death number 5: Dennis
When Dennis the manager quickly arrives at the scene, a wrench is catapulted slashing his head open. A very quick death, not very mentionable.
Death number 6: Agent Block
Special Agent Block is keeping an eye on Sam, even though the bridge disaster was proven to be a freak accident caused by heavy wind. He still doesn’t trust Sam because of all the following freak deaths. Peter interrupts Sam and Molly’s date in the restaurant where Sam works, and he planned to kill Molly and take her life, so that he doesn’t get killed. Molly and Sam fight Peter, who has a gun but when Brock shows up, Peter shoots him instead. He still wants to kill Molly though. This is the first time in this franchise that someone has evil intent to save himself instead of helping the others not getting killed so Death will skip them. This sinister turn brings something new to the franchise.
Death number 7: Peter
But Peter can’t escape Death, not because Death doesn’t want him anymore, but because he’s so determined to kill Molly. Sam impales him with the huge grill fork. Now Sam has gotten Peter’s remaining life, or yet Block’s remaining life.
Death number 8 and 9: Molly and Sam
Thinking they’re both safe now, Sam accepts an internship in Paris and Molly goes with him. When they are on the plane, they see a little fuzz with some students. Surprise surprise: it’s Alex and Carter who are fighting and they are seen being escorted off the plane. Sam and Molly have boarded Flight 180 and fly to their deaths. Well that’s a twist you probably didn’t see coming.
This is indeed a very nice twist. This isn’t the fifth movie in the timeline at all, but it’s a prequel. We have just watched the event that started it all. The initial survivors were just collateral damage to finally kill off Sam and Molly. And setting the whole franchise further in motion. A nice surprise and probably nobody saw that coming.
Death number 10: Nathan
But it’s still not over yet. Because the final death is the most ironic of them all. Nathan is in a bar celebrating his survival, when he hears that Roy had a blood cloth in his brain and he would have died any moment if he wasn’t killed. At that moment the airplane explodes sending a big piece of debris right onto the bar crushing Nathan.
Ranking the 10 deaths
They ended the franchise with a bang. The fifth movie certainly had the most elaborate and longest premonition scene. And the rollercoaster comes in second with a very frightening elaborate crash. This prequel also had very funny and cringing deaths, with also some fun deadly chain of events, original settings, a very ironic death and a dark twist which all make this movie a fun surprise.
While this installment turned out to be the prequel, it actually didn’t end in a more sinister way, but rather it started off sinister, then turned into a more positive way to cheat Death, to save someone you have to intervene. And ended with the advice that new life can save you. And indeed in the second movie Kimberly dying and being revived saved two lives. Kimberly and Burke are so far the only two people who ever survived this franchise.
So to sum things up. My favorite premonition death scene would be the collapsing bridge, followed up by the rollercoaster crash and the second premonition at the exploding mall. The movie with the most creative deaths would be in my opinion this fifth film, and the fourth film comes in second, and the third movie has to settle for third place. But the first film had characters you really rooted for, while most characters from the other movies were people you didn’t really care for or who were just downright unlikeable.
It’s hard so say which movie is the best, they all add something new and fresh to the Final Destination franchise. I’m very excited to see what the new movie Final Destination Bloodlines (2025) will have to offer. Hopefully a bigger than big premonition scene and highly original, creative, bloody and elaborate death scenes with all new kinds of deadly chain of events and fun death traps.
Fun a final note, it will be fun to spot the Easter Egg Hice Pale Ale Beer Truck somewhere in the movie causing havoc and even a death.
Fun Easter Eggs to look for:
- John Denver song Rocky Mountain High
- Number 180
- Hice Pale Ale Beer Truck
