In the small town of Vernon a masked killer called the Sweet Sixteen Killer has set his eyes on a group of friends in 1987 and now, 35 years later he’s back.

The Setting

On October 27 1987 Tiffany Clarke is stabbed to death sixteen times during her sweet sixteen birthday party. She was found in the garage. Two days later on October 29, 16-year-old Marisa Song was also stabbed to death sixteen times and was found in a cabin in the woods. On Halloween 1987, 16-year-old Heather Hernandez was found stabbed to death sixteen times at the parking lot of Billy’s Boardwalk, an amusement park. 

Now Halloween 2023 the Sweet Sixteen Killer is back and comes after Pam Hughes, although she was properly prepared, she was stabbed to death sixteen times. Her daughter Jamie is devastated, but her best friend Amelia is a genius and was working on a time machine using a photo booth at the now abandoned Billy’s Boardwalk. First Jamie goes to meet Chris Dubasage, who has a podcast about the murders from 35 years ago and is the only one still looking for the killer and Pam was helping him. Chris shows Jamie a note that Pam found in her locker after the three killings that said: you’re next one day.

So Jamie goes to the photo booth with Amelia to travel back in time, but then the killer shows up and chases her. When Jamie is inside the booth, he stabs the control panel and suddenly the time machine works and transports Jamie back to the set date of October 27 1987. Now she can prevent the death of the three girls, unmask the killer and therefore prevent her mother’s death.

The Characters

In 1987 she goes looking for her mother, Pam Miller. She finds out that Pam is a mean girl and part of The Molly’s, consisting of the three soon-to-be-murdered girls Tiffany, Marisa and Heater. She also finds Amelia’s mother Lauren who instantly believes her, because it were her notes that Amelia built the time machine from. While she tries to build a working time machine to get Jamie home, Jamie tries to stop the killings.

She not only meets her mother and the Molly’s, but also her father Blake Hughes who is a stud, her principal Doug, who is a nerd and outsider, Kara the sheriff who’s a tough girl and a daddy’s girl, Randy the coach who is a dumb muscle boy, Lurch the concierge at Billy’s Boardwalk, who’s an outcast and Eddie Taylor who is Jamie’s rock idol. 

Together with Lauren and Pam, whom she tells she is psychic and therefore knows what’s about to happen, she tries to stop the murders. 

In the present Amelia is working on the time machine with the help of Chris whose memories are starting to change as Jamie changes things in the past.

Let the killings begin

• Death no. 1: Pam Hughes. She is attacked and stabbed 16 times in her own house on Halloween 2023. Or chronologically seen she’s the last to be killed. 
• Death no. 2: Tiffany is stabbed in her parent’s bedroom instead of the garage at her own sweet sixteen birthday party. Jamie couldn’t stop the murder but by intervening things have changed.
• Death no. 3: The whole gang goes to the cabin despite Jamie’s warnings. There Heather is the one being killed instead of Marisa. So things have changed even more and Jamie doesn’t have a clue what will happen next. Anything can happen and now everyone is in danger.
• Death no. 4: On Halloween they use Marisa, who is likely to be the next victim, as bait. She goes to the Dollhouse of Horrors at Billy’s Boardwalk while Randy, Blake, Pam and Jamie hide to watch out for the killer and stop him. A big fight breaks out and they all wound him. When he’s got Jamie cornered and is ready to kill her, he is stabbed with a scythe, which was part of Kara’s costume and was actually real.  

The Killer unmasked

So they take off his mask and it is revealed that the Sweet Sixteen Killer is in fact Doug. He was the boyfriend of Fat Trish and wanted revenge for her death. It all started with a rumor that Trish slept with coach Zane. While Tiffany had a slumber party she invited Trish and got her drunk to find out if it was true. Trish denied it and was bullied. She fled the house and drove home drunk and crashed her car. Doug blamed Tiffany, Marisa an Heather for Trish’ death. That night Pam wasn’t there. She had a fight with Tiffany and wasn’t invited. That’s why she was never a target.

But how come Chris showed her the note that said: You’re next one day. With Doug dead he couldn’t have given her the note and he certainly couldn’t have killed Pam in 2023. So who did?

Let the killings begin. Again

• Death no. 5: Suddenly another Sweet Sixteen Killer shows up and slices Marisa’s throat. The others run and Lauren urges Jamie to get to the time machine because it needs her phone battery, which is almost empty. While Lauren and Jamie go to the Quantum Drop that Lauren has turned into a time machine, the killer is in pursuit. 
• Death no. 6: But while running past him the killer quickly stabs Norm Dubasage, Chris’ father and news reporter, who is reporting Halloween at Billy’’s Boardwalk. 
• Death no. 7: Jaimie kills the other Sweet Sixteen Killer with Lauren’s nail gun. Pushing him of the center of the time machine where he explodes into pink mist. 

The Killer Unmasked. Again

But back to the fight before he was killed. Inside the time machine Lauren instructs Jamie as the killer jumps in. Lauren has to leave, but Pam comes in to help Jamie fight off the killer. Luckily Jamie is just in time to get her mother off the ride, before the time machine actually starts working. When Pam is pulled off the ride, she pulls off the mask and it is revealed to be Chris. 

He killed her mother in the present because he wanted to keep the story alive. He made the Sweet Sixteen Killer, the Boogyman of Vernon, his own Michael Myers return, so that the story keeps on going. He went back in time to kill Jamie to prevent her from ending the story and as a bonus he killed his father, so that he wouldn’t have to grow up with such bad father. 

The end

Jamie gets savely back to 2023 and finds out that her mother is alive and that she is still with her father. But some things have changed. Pam and Blake got together at high school instead of after college and now Jamie has a 34-year-old brother Jamie. And she is now called Colette. Jamie is married with Jason and they have a 3-year-old daughter Veronica. Amelia is still Jamie/Colette’s best friend and Lauren has become a bioengineer. 

Now that Doug is dead, Randy became Principal. Kara became chief of police. Lurch who was Trish’ brother founded a video game empire called Pink Mist Games to honor his sister. Chris was traumatized after seeing his father killed on live tv and went to a monastery in India where he still resides. That’s also the reason why Pam was not murdered in the new timeline. Chris never became a podcaster and didn’t even stay in Vernon. 

Although Jamie couldn’t stop the past and Tiffany, Marisa and Heather were still killed, she did change the present. And the better for all of them. Fucking time travel.
