Plot
Last year Halloween turned into a dangerous ordeal after an old woman, was falsely accused of kidnapping a little boy. The whole town was so angry they turned into an angry mob and walked up to her house on the hill. It was set on fire with the woman in it. She cursed the town before she turned to dust. A year later she kidnapped all the children put a spell on the adults. However 19-year-old Carmen and her 9-year-old brother Tommy stopped her and killed her. It turned out that she really was a witch after all and that Brett, a bully, accidentally set fire to the house. He didn’t mean to burn it down, he thought it was funny, without thinking about the consequences.
Now that they defeated the witch, this year Halloween will be a normal Halloween again. Or will it? Three old women, a short rotund one, a tall lanky one, and a normal one covered in warts, got on a bus and set off to find their sister. When they come up to her house, they find it burned down and her sister is dead. Now they want revenge.
They snatch all the adults and put them in an alternate reality, trapping them under a dome. Leaving all the kids under twelve behind, also trapped under a dome. Now that Carmen and her father Robert, the sheriff are separated from Tommy they each have to find a way to defeat the witch. Only now it’s three of them and they have until midnight before something very bad is going to happen.

Short Review
It’s a year later and now Carmen and Stacey who used to be a mean girl have become friends. Stacey’s 9-year-old brother Brett is still a bit of a bully and rather selfish. While Robert, Carmen and Stacey and all the other adults are trapped in an alternative reality and Tommy has to work together with Brett, Shawn and Randy and a new boy Devon, the dynamics have changed. Now the kids aren’t helpless but can actively do something with Tommy as their leader.
Both sides come up with ideas, make different discoveries and when they find Peter, the man in the first book who knew a lot about witches and helped them, he helps them once again and plays a pivotal part. Not only in providing tools to fight the witches and more information, he also is the key to communication between the two realities which is a fun concept.
The book also has another fun surprising twist, you won’t see coming. Just like the first book they have to deal with the traps and attacks the witches have planned for them. This book is much more pro-active than the first book, which makes it also less scary. The witches are very present while the witch in the first book remained elusive and only showed herself and her scary transformation at the end. The witches are rather conventional stereotypes and they don’t speak. They only mutter and grumble in another language. They don’t have a personality they only serve as the malignant presence that threatens the town.
The Witches of Halloween Haven is a story about bravery, friendship, redemption and especially the young four boys learn import lessons about friendship. It might seem tragic and dire at some point but it all ends well. It’s a fun sequel that is less scary but more dire, with more action and with less Halloween vibes.
